Melon VPN for PC: there is no desktop app
Melon VPN is an app for iOS and Android. There is no Windows client, no macOS client, and no installer for a laptop. If a site offers "Melon VPN for PC", it is either an emulator wrapper or something unrelated to us.
What those "for PC" downloads usually are
Three things get sold under that name:
- An Android emulator plus the real app. It works, slowly, and routes your whole laptop through an emulated phone network stack.
- A repackaged browser extension that has nothing to do with our app.
- An installer bundling adware, which is the most common case.
None of these come from us. Our only distribution channels are the App Store and Google Play, both linked from the download page.
Why we have not built one
A desktop client is not "the mobile app, ported". It is a different networking stack, a different update mechanism, a different set of OS permissions, and a support load we cannot currently answer within 24 hours. Shipping one badly would be worse than not shipping one — a VPN that silently fails to route is more dangerous than no VPN, because you think you are covered.
What to use on a laptop
- Free: a reputable free tier from a provider that has a desktop app. Most have data caps, which is a reasonable trade for occasional use.
- Router-level: put the VPN on your router and every device on that network inherits it. More setup, no per-device client.
- Paid desktop VPN: if you need it on a laptop daily, pick a provider whose desktop client is a first-class product, not a port.
The honest summary: our subscription covers phones. If your work happens on a laptop, we are not the right tool for that device, and we would rather say so than sell you an emulator.
Questions
Is there a Melon VPN for Windows or Mac?
No. Melon VPN is an app for iOS and Android only. There is no Windows client, no macOS client, and no desktop installer.
Can I run the Android app in an emulator?
It may install, but we do not recommend it. Performance and battery behavior there are not representative, and support cannot help with emulator-specific problems.
What should I use on a laptop instead?
A browser-based solution, a router-level VPN, or a provider with a native desktop app. If you need the same subscription on every device, check the provider has desktop support before you pay.
Why is there no desktop app?
Because a desktop client is a different product: different networking stack, different update path, different support load. We would rather do one platform properly than ship a second one badly.
